AUDITION NOTICE: FOLLOW MY LIGHT- A NEW MUSICAL
Video submissions are now being accepted for a two-part workshop performance of "Follow My Light- A New Musical". We are looking to cast actors to participate in one or both parts of this workshop.
The first half of this production will be a developmental reading housed at Children?s Theatre of Charlotte from June 1st- 14th and will culminate in a small reading for invited guests.
The second half will be a production that will take place at UpStage NoDa July 13th-16th. Rehearsals will begin the last week in June.
This production will be an opportunity to work on a brand new musical one on one with the composers and other Charlotte theatre makers.
Please submit a video featuring the following items:
-A 32 bar cut of a contemporary musical theatre or pop song (no A cappella auditions will be considered)
-A 1-minute contemporary monologue.

Follow My Light - The Musical

Follow My Light is a dark re-imagination of a classic tale, inspired by a line of text found within J.M. Barrie?s Peter Pan. ?There were odd stories about him, as that when children died he went part of the way with them, so that they should not be frightened.?
Wishes become reality as Peter and James begin an incredible friendship; a friendship destined to last forever, or until James at last realizes the sacrifice he?s made and the life he?s left behind.
The story centers on Peter, an angel eternally tasked with the job of ferrying the souls of deceased children from this life to the next. His job is one colored with the loneliness that intensifies with every goodbye.
James, sickly and bedridden, is looking to free his mother from the grief she faces dealing with his illness.
Through a contemporary-pop score, Follow My Light explores the betrayal, misunderstanding and heartbreak that began one of the most hallowed rivalries in literary history: Peter Pan and Captain Hook.
Character List:
JAMES - Tenor (plays Young James and Adult James)
As a young boy James is bright-eyed and hopeful, yet very ill. Worried about the grief his illness is causing his mother James runs away with Peter to Neverland.
Once grown, James takes to the water as a sailor. He is a loving father to his daughter, Gwen and her death leads him on a dark path. As the most demanding role in the show, the actor who portrays James must be able to appear both youthful and then grow up over the span of the musical.
MOTHER (Belt Soprano) ? James? mother. Would do anything to protect her sickly son, and his illness is a constant source of worry and fear for her. A religious woman, who goes through an emotional journey after losing her boy to Neverland.
PETER (Tenor- Strong high range- should be able to sing a B) ? The boy angel, tasked with accompanying the souls of children to heaven. Peter is the epitome of youth, full of energy and imagination. Peter?s ego can sometimes get him in trouble, but his charisma and fearless nature make him and James instant friends. Peter is a strong tenor with a bold and brash presence.
CAPELLA (Alto) ? An angel with the power to control the tides, her task is to watch over sailors as they journey across the seven seas. Capella?s relationship with James and Peter fluctuates between friend, protector and love interest. Capella acts as a narrative voice throughout the story yet is a edgy and quirky young woman.
GWEN (Soprano)? James? daughter; a curious little girl, who loves nothing more than to go sailing with her father. Gwen is quick-witted, and shares James? sense of playfulness and imagination. She is everything James? ever wanted, and her tragic and untimely death breaks him. Gwen is an innately likable and youthful girl.
Other Characters
The ensemble consists of actors that make up the angels (Miranda and Pyxis), Nel ? James? nurse, and the Lost Boys (Slightly, Tootles, Nibs and Curly) ? to help create the bustling streets of London, the fantastic Neverland landscape.
